Making Shapes

Using different materials in the classroom the students are making different two dimensional and three dimensional shapes

"Clouds Make Snowflakes"

Our students have been discussing the recent changes in weather with the freezing temperatures and the snow falling. They drew winter scenes and discussed their theories about why it snows.

An emerging theme amongst the children's current understanding of why we have snow is that the clouds make snowflakes and when the wind pushes the clouds together the snow comes out. We will continue investigating our theories about snow.

Our word wall

Today we created our word wall using magnetic letters. We put up the first and last letters of the alphabet and then put all the letters in the middle. Each child helped put up the letters in order on the word wall. After putting up the letters we put our names on the word wall. As the days and weeks go on, we will add words we know to the word wall. We will use our word wall to learn words that will help us with our reading and writing.

Once There Was a Snowman

  1. We are learning this song at school this week:
  2. Once there was a snowman, snowman, snowman,
Once there was a snowman, tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted, melted, melted.
In the sun he melted, small, small, small.
Please go to the following link to watch a video of the song:

Shape Song

Here is a song the students learned this week:

Shape Song
(to the tune of: "The Farmer in the Dell")
A circle's like a ball,
A circle's like a ball,
Round and round
It never stops.
A circle's like a ball!
A square is like a box,
A square is like a box,
It has four sides,
They are the same.
A square is like a box!
A triangle has 3 sides,
A triangle has 3 sides,
Up the mountain,
Down, and back.
A triangle has 3 sides!
A rectangle has 4 sides,
A rectangle has 4 sides,
Two are long, and
Two are short.
A rectangle has 4 sides!
